Sunday the Bandits traveled north to Cambridge to play the Rum River Bandits in a doubleheader making up the game that got rained out on Saturday. Game one started with Sean Gough on the mound and the East Bethel Bandits bats on fire. The East Bethel Bandits built up a 10-0 lead over the first three innings. Then the Rum River Bandits decided there was still time to make a game of it. Putting up 3 runs in 4th inning adding 1 more in the fifth and 5 more in the sixth making it a 10-9 game going into the 7th.The East Bethel Bandits then got a huge inning from Erik Zentzis. In the top of the 7 inning with Tyler Marcio on first base and two outs Erik hit a monster homerun. One where you weren't saying to yourself is that going to get out of here. You where thinking is that going to clear the pine trees. Then Erik came in to pitch the bottom of the 7 to hold Rum River scoreless and pick up his first save of the season. Great inning by another Bandits player who stepped up and got it done. The other Bandits who stepped up in game one, Tyer Marcio went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 rbi's. Besides the first homerun of the season for Erik Zentzis he also had a double and 2 walks. Dustin Rode also went 3 for 4 with a double and 4 rbi's, and newcomer Josh Hintz was 2 for 4 with two runs scored, threw out the only runner who tried to steal, blocked balls all game behind the dish and flat out hustled the whole game. Good job for game one but remember we play two tonight. In Game two it was Steve Jelmberg on the mound for the Bandits and Steve stepped up and pitched a complete game for the Bandits throwing shutout ball till the 7th inning when Rum River got a 2 run homerun to make it a 3-2 game. Steve didn't let it bother him(it's not the 1st he's ever given up, there was a kid from Centennial who's homerun may not of landed yet). Steve finished off the rest of the Rum River hitters to get the complete game win. Great game Steve. The Bandits scored their first run in the 2nd inning when after drawing a walk and STEALING 2nd base (the fans went wild) Alex (Grizz) Smrekar advanced to 3rd on a ball hit to the right side of the infield and scored on a wild pitch. In the 3rd inning Mitch Minnig scored on a sac fly by Tyler Marcio. In the 4th Jim Dunham scored on a base hit by Dustin Rode for his 5th rbi of the night. The Rum River Bandits are a fine young hard playing team and it was a fun night of baseball in Cambridge. On a side note for those keeping track Garrett Cook's consecutive innings in the field without an error continues.
